You might also backup critical databases or ones that are changed much during slower times of the day so that you don't dimish user interaction. You could then backup larger databases during slower traffic times. Therefore, it might be more useful to stagger backups based on databases, making for possbily several smaller files. This could be take longer to complete the backup and make restoration a bit cumbersome later. Just One Databaseīacking up all of the databases at once with mariadb-dump may result in one large dump file. Notice that the equal-sign is added when the password is given with the long option name. Again, if the backup is to be executed by a shell script, the user's password should be listed: -password= mypwd. The longer option names are easier to follow and to remember. So, the above could and should be entered like this: mariadb-dump -user=admin_backup -password -lock-tables -all-databases > /data/backup/dbs.sql In fact, some are being deprecated and won't be available in the future. The convention is migrating to longer options, not the single letter options. The example given for backing up all database is the short hand version. Finally, the greater-than sign is a shell redirect of the standard output (STDOUT) to the path and file named after it. The -A option specifies that all databases are to be exported. This extended insert option will cause the dump file to be smaller and allow any possible future restores to be executed faster. To bundle INSERT statements together for each table, we've added the -e option. The lock won't be released until the process is finished. The -x option has MariaDB lock all of the tables before performing the backup. If the dump is to be executed by cron by way of a shell script, this option can be changed to -p mypwd, where mypwd is the password-there's no space between the -p and the password. Incidentally, although you might be tempted to just use the root user, you should create a special administrative user as we're using here. The first set of options here ( -u admin_backup -p) tell MariaDB that this utility is to be executed by the user admin_backup and that the user needs to be prompted for a password, which will have to be typed in on the next line when asked. To export all of the databases in MariaDB using mariadb-dump, the following would be entered from the filesystem command-line: mariadb-dump -u admin_backup -p -x -A > /data/backup/dbs.sql If you were to open a dump file generated by mariadb-dump, you would see CREATE TABLE statements and a multitude of INSERT statements, one for each row of data. This data text file (known as a dump file) will contain the SQL statements necessary to reconstruct the databases and data. It works very simply: it retrieves the data and schema from each database and table and builds a data text file outside of MariaDB. Best of all it doesn't require you to shut down MariaDB services to make a backup. It comes with MariaDB, so it costs you nothing more. One of the best utilities to use to make a backup copy of a server's MariaDB's data is mariadb-dump (previously called mysqldump, which still works as a symlink).

Roblox had 32.6 million daily active users at the end of 2020 and the company is predicting that it will have 34.6 million to 36.4 million by the end of 2021. People walk by the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in the Financial District in Manhattan in New York City. The company also said earlier this month that it now expects sales to rise about another 60% this year to a range of $1.44 billion to $1.52 billion. Roblox posted revenue of nearly $925 million last year, up 82% from 2019. That’s a big – and rapidly growing business. More than half of those sales are through the app stores of Apple The company generates nearly all of its revenue from the sale of its Robux currency, which can be used to purchase in-game virtual objects. Roblox is free to download on phones, tablets and consoles. His stake in the company is now worth more than $4 billion. “Roblox is an amazing community where people are creating together,” said Roblox CEO and co-founder David Baszucki in an interview with CNN Business Wednesday. Roblox describes itself as a “metaverse” where players can make their own avatars and environments to play in, such as virtual theme parks or scuba diving. Shares of the popular video game platform debuted on Wall Street and surged nearly 55% to $69.50, valuing the company at more than $45 billion. One more thing I would like to mention is that, from what I've seen, there was never a real GoBlocks logo that was ever created or shown online, there is one recreation that I commonly find, but its not real.Investors weren’t making the trademark “oof” Roblox death sound Wednesday. Logo that is commonly thought to be a 2002 logo for Roblox (its not) If we go to the Wayback Machine and look up, we find a really old archive from October of 2002, however that is NOT a domain from Roblox (at least at that time), if we go forward a year to December 2003, it mentions that the domain was registered, implying that Roblox might have bought it around then. Most of these domains redirect to today. It appears the Roblox team was brainstorming many different ideas for what would be the Roblox name, buying domains that matched. "So, you're saying that Roblox was created in mid-late 2003, and it had the name eBlocks?"īefore we end off this blog post, I would like to debunk a few misconceptions about Roblox's name choices over the years. Unfortunately we have no screenshots or archives of how eBlocks looked.Į was registered in 2002, but this doesn't prove anything, as there is no name attached to it's whois lookup, and it doesn't redirect to unlike most other Roblox domains. Well, I can't say for 100% certainty that eBlocks was Roblox, but considering that Roblox has gone into stealth mode in 2005, it is entirely possible this was it's original name. "So, what was eBlocks, was that the original name for Roblox? What did it look like?" We're not quite done yet, hold your horses.īetween July 2003 and October 2003, David Baszucki's personal website listed a project known as "eBlocks" calling it a stealth mode video game company. "So, the earliest confirmed existence of Roblox is sometime in 2003, and was called GoBlocks?" This screenshot seems to have been taken in January 2004, but it mentions "Copyright 2003 DYNABLOCKS,Inc." Suggesting that DynaBlocks had it's name created in 2003, and that GoBlocks came possibly earlier than that. In this screenshot we can see a lot more detail and information about years. There was a PowerPoint document found in the description of one of David Baszucki's recorded presentations on YouTube, found here: Unmodified, higher quality "DynaBlocks" screenshot from a downloadable powerpoint file First, let's continue off with the finding of the Higher Quality screenshot of this page, that was found linked in a corrupted, but complete enough PowerPoint document. "So that solves it, right? Roblox was originally called GoBlocks?" At this time code we see the following screenshot: "DynaBlocks" screenshot from Virtual BLOXcon 2013ĭynablocks is prominently showed as the logo, and eagle eyed people might have noticed there are some references to "GoBlocks" in the page, and on the title bar, suggesting that it was originally GoBlocks but was changed to DynaBlocks shortly after. Let's start where everybody else started, with the Virtual BLOXcon 2013 Live stream. However, the rabbit hole goes much deeper than you might think. The most commonly accepted answer is DynaBlocks, or maybe even GoBlocks depending on who you ask. So, the question seems simple, "What was Roblox called when it was first being created, and when was it made?" In fact, at import, you can tell Final Cut to copy the media to a specified Library. Libraries are a big part of organizing your assets, but before you use them you have to import media. Luckily, you don't have to worry about projects you created before this Library arrangement: Final Cut offers a simple update option to get them with the program. Libraries are similar to the Catalogs in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom in that they are databases that can be backed up to a separate drive, and they receive automatic backups. They combine the previously discrete Events and Projects panels. Final Cut Pro's Libraries, Importing, and Organizingįinal Cut Pro Libraries let you keep assets together for use in multiple projects. Apple claims that they can render projects up to six times faster, though that's compared with Core i3-based Macs, which few serious video editors would be likely to use. As mentioned, it runs natively on Apple Silicon Macs. The program requires a machine running macOS Catalina 10.15.6 or later, an OpenCL-capable video processor, 3.8GB free disk space, and a minimum of 4GB RAM (8GB is the recommended amount). Installing Final Cut ProĪt over 3GB, Final Cut Pro is a hefty download, so make sure you have enough local storage. Apple has no doubt noticed how well the model has worked for Adobe, with its substantial annual revenue increases since the move to subscriptions. Given the significant resources that go into the continued development of this kind of complex software, I would not be surprised to see Apple move to a subscription model for Final Cut Pro for macOS, as it has already done so for the iPad version of the software ($4.99 per month or $49 per year). Apple offers a generous 90-day free trial, which only requires an Apple Store account to get.īy comparison, you can only get Adobe's competing Premiere Pro with a Creative Cloud subscription for $19.99 per month. There's no upgrade pricing, but when you consider the old Final Cut's $999 price, $299 is more or less upgrade pricing. You can install it on multiple Macs for $299.99, and you receive updates automatically-no subscription required. How Much Does Final Cut Pro Cost?Īs with any modern Mac app, you can get Final Cut Pro in the Mac App Store. The result is a surprisingly powerful and (once you get the hang of it) easy-to-use application. The company did this to take advantage of the beefier hardware in newer Macs as well as to reimagine the craft of video editing. Those have been joined by many more capabilities, including 3D titling, an impressive Flow transition to smooth out jump cuts, as well as support for 360-degree VR content and HDR and HEVC (High Efficiency Video Codec, aka H.265).įinal Cut Pro still shuns the traditional timeline-track interface of its predecessors, a choice that initially dismayed some video professionals. The subsequent 10.6.6 point upgrade adds integration with Final Cut for iPad app automatic color management and improved color correction workflow new titles, effects, transitions, and generators and perhaps most excitingly, a Scene Removal Mask to remove and replace a shot's background.įinal Cut has long since regained pro-level features that were initially missing, including multicam editing, XML importing, and external monitor support. The big updates in the latest major version, 10.6, add intelligent motion tracking, support for iPhone Cinematic video mode editing, voice isolation, duplicate clip detection, focus options for video shot in the iPhone's Cinematic mode, and performance improvements. Although it costs more than other consumer video editors, Final Cut Pro remains a PCMag Editors' Choice winner for video editing software. While professionals may complain about its nontraditional trackless timeline, and amateurs may scratch their heads over its wealth of sophisticated options, it's a magnificent tool for both groups once you dig into it. It does a remarkable job of bridging these two worlds. Such prowess translates to quicker game loads and swift app startups. Tests revealed the 990 Pro surpassing the 980 Pro, transferring a 10GB file about 9% quicker and copying a large folder roughly 32% faster. Additionally, it showcases impressive read speeds, nearing PCIe 4.0's maximum of 8,000MB/s. For gamers, it boasts unparalleled read speeds for creative professionals, its write speeds shine, especially during intensive tasks.Ī standout feature: the 990 Pro's sequential writes significantly outpace both its predecessor and competitors. However, its performance, nearly maxing out the PCIe 4.0’s potential, silenced many naysayers. It’s good because it does what it’s supposed to do without leaving too much to be desired, but, at the same time, it doesn’t do anything particularly well.Samsung's 990 Pro M.2 SSD garnered attention upon its announcement, primarily due to its adherence to the existing PCIe 4.0 standard instead of the anticipated PCIe 5.0. Stellar Data Recovery SoftwareĪs far as data recovery software for Windows goes, Stellar Data Recovery doesn’t stand out in any particular way, which is both good and bad. Recoverit Data RecoveryĪlthough Recoverit Data Recovery doesn’t boast almost any additional capabilities, it does offer a decent data recovery performance and support for many file signatures, making it suitable for people who just want to recover their data in the most basic file loss scenario and move on without spending any time on data loss prevention. Unfortunately, it also stands out with its price, since the annual subscription is way more expensive than Disk Drill’s lifetime license. This data recovery software for Windows stands out with its support for over 1,000 file signatures, allowing it to recover even more obscure files (the vendor fails to provide any details on these 1,000 formats, though). You might want to give it a try-just don’t expect too much and remember that far more feature-packed solutions do exist. The free version of Recuva used to be great for addressing more straightforward data loss scenarios because of its unlimited nature, but the lack of attention it has received in recent years from its developers is starting to show - its data recovery features have not been updated since 2016. Unlike its competitors, Disk Drill doesn’t use a subscription pricing model, so you don’t have to pay over and over again to keep using it.
